Redistribution Kit Information

MCL Redistribution Kit

The MCL environment includes an application generator for standalone programs. These are known as "Lisp Development Systems" as they include all the MCL development environment. MCL programmers typically use this capability to create their own customized MCL programming environment. To distribute applications generated with MCL to other parties, within or outside your organization, a MCL Redistribution License is required. This is a one-time fee that permits you to distribute an unlimited number of MCL applications ROYALTY-FREE.

A single MCL Redistribution Kit currently covers both 68K and PowerPC applications.

  • 68K applications must be generated using the MCL-AppGen mechanism included in the Redistribution Kit. This reduces the disk footprint of your application by 450-900K by removing components of the MCL development environment.
  • PowerPC applications must be generated with the "excise compiler" option selected in MCL (the AppGen mechanism is not yet available for the PowerPC platform).

MCL Compiler Redistribution Kit

A license is also available for including the MCL compiler in your product, if your application requires it at runtime. This too is a one-time fee that permits you to include the MCL compiler in an unlimited number of MCL applications ROYALTY-FREE.

Features of MCL 3.0 Compiler Redistribution Kit include:

  • The MCL compiler as a fasl file.
  • License to incorporate the MCL compiler in an unlimited number of MCL Distributable Applications ROYALTY-FREE.
  • Needed only for shipping applications that call the MCL compiler at runtime.

In all cases, distributed MCL applications must be sufficiently different from MCL itself (e.g. by restriction of MCL development features) so as not to constitute a Lisp development environment for which a separate MCL license would be required.
