CLIM Info and Resources

The Common Lisp Interface Manager (CLIM) is available now from Digitool as an add-on to MCL.

CLIM 2.0 provides:

  1. A complete platform-independent windowing system
  2. Declarative layout control
  3. Context-sensitive input
  4. Interaction via mouse, menu, and keyboard

CLIM 2.0 has been updated to work with MCL 5.0 beta.

If you plan to target additional Lisp platforms, now or in the future, then you will benefit by using CLIM to build the user interface for your application. CLIM is available from vendors of popular Lisp platforms, and provides both a consistent user experience and the look and feel of the platform's native widgets or controls.

Note: If your Lisp applications are written specifically and only for the Macintosh, MCL has all the built-in functionality you'll need to provide a fully-functional Macintosh user interface experience.

Both Common Lisp and CLIM have excellent portability across platforms. Put these together with MCL's superior development environment and your Macintosh, and you have the ideal set of tools for developing intelligent multi-platform applications.

These sites provide information about CLIM:

CLIM 2.0 User's Guide
The CLIM 2.0 User's Guide provides information necessary to write programs for CLIM. The guide is available on the net through the courtest of Harlequin, Inc. (Note: There may be slight differences between Digitool's CLIM and the Harlequin manual. Consult the release notes for details.)
User Interface Management Systems: The CLIM Perspective
Ralf Moeller's paper describes CLIM within the broader context of User Interface Management Systems. This is a good high-level introduction to CLIM, complete with pictorial examples.
